Ferrari 250 GTO fetches nearly $20 million

Chris Evans, a Radio 2 disc jockey in the United Kingdom, reportedly purchased a Ferrari 250 GTO for £12 million, or approximately $17.7 million. The 1963 250 GTO he acquired is one of only 36 ever built between 1962 and 1963. The car sports a 3.0-liter V-12 producing 290 hp; that power is channeled through a five-speed manual to the rear wheels. Acceleration is sprightly, even by today’s standards, zero-to-60 mph takes 6.1 seconds and the top speed is 174 mph.

Chris Evans, 44, hosts a radio show in the morning that brings in 9.5 million listeners. He is said to have sold three other Ferraris from his collection in order to purchase this special car. This is not the first time Evans wanted to purchase a 250 GTO. He was on the verge of obtaining one 15 years ago but backed out at the last minute.

"Will there ever be a day when there is a GTO in the Evan’s garage? The Ferrari 250 GTO is, without doubt, the most sought after car in the world." Evans later said.

RM Auctions brokered the deal between a Japanese collector and Evans.
