A photographer in the small area of Emilia, Italy, a town closer to Milano than Modena, has spotted a Ferrari test mule that some speculate may be the upcoming 599 GTB Fiorano GTO, or Gran Turismo Omologato. The GTO names dates back to the 1984 Ferrari 288 GTO—a predecessor to the now infamous F40 and F50—and, prior to the 288, the highly sought 1962–1964 Ferrari 250 GTO.
The 599 GTO will bridge the gap between the 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE and the track-only 599 XX. Power is rumored to come from the same 6.0-liter V-12 but now making near 700 hp. It is anticipated that the F1-SuperFast gearbox will be able to swap gear in 60 milliseconds in comparision to its current 100-milliseconds shift time. Performance will be noticeably quicker than the stock 599, with zero-to-60 mph dropping to 3.2 seconds from its current time of 3.7 seconds and top speed growing to near 220 mph from its present top speed of 205 mph.
Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa previously confirmed that the 599 GTO is in the works.
