We already told you how the Lexus LFA sold out in Japan three months ahead of schedule and how to purchase one in the United States would require a quasi-lease agreement. Now we have word that Lexus will also be filtering out potential buyers in the U.S. through an approval process that will look at the potential owner’s location, the other cars he or she owns, and, above all, driving habits. It seems the goal is to find people that will drive the car frequently and in the right types of places (read Rodeo Drive).
Although extreme, this is not too far from how other exotic car makers sell their ultra exotics. Ferrari sold its Enzo by invite only to pervious Ferrari buyers and with special preference to those who had purchased the F40 and F50.
