Barrett-Jackson kicks off this week

One of the world’s greatest car auctions, Barrett-Jackson, will be running from January 19–24 in Scottsdale, Arizona. As in the past, the auction will host a plethora of vehicles, including an abundance of American-made pre-1975 cars and trucks.

One vehicle being showcased by this year’s auction is a 1930 Ford Model A Coupe, which was the "original car used by John Dillinger, Hommer Van Meter, and John Hamilton to escape from Little Bohemia, Wisconsin, and the largest FBI crack down in history."

Crossing the block on Thursday is lot # 701.2, a 2010 Hurst Mustang convertible pace car. The car is "the one and only original pace car for the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Series. Donated by Woodhouse Auto Family, Hurst Performance Vehicles, and various suppliers to Victory Junction's newest Camp for Kids in Kansas City, Kansas."

Lot # 1309.1 is a 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T Alice Cooper limited edition that comes in Hemi Orange with a black leather interior and includes embroidered Alice Cooper signature seats.

Another sale that will likely garnish a lot of attention is of one of five factory 1966 Mercury Comet fliptop funny cars to have survived. It is called the "grandfather of all funny cars," because of some of its "historical firsts: 1st Stage II chassis, 1st automatic, 1st escape hatch."

A pair of 1966 Ford Mustang convertibles customized when new for Sonny & Cher by George Barris and rightfully called the “Sonny & Cher Mustangs” will also be going under the hammer.

A particularly interesting custom Watson Roadster by Blastolene features a hand-built body wrapped around a “29-L 12 cyl Patton tank engine that produces 910 hp. The aluminum body was formed in the spirit of a '50s Indy special.” The car stretches 270 inches in length and weighs 8,400 pounds.

A car that has been capturing headlines is a 1971 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda being sold by Beach Boys guitarist Al Jardine. The car was removed after the auction house found that the VIN did not match the title. After looking deeper, it was discovered that the car was reported stolen in 1975. After an investigation by the Scottsdale Police Department it was uncovered that the police report from when the car was stolen failed to mention that the car was found later that month and that it was missing its VIN plate when it was recovered. After being cleared by the police, Jardine’s car was placed back on Barrett-Jackson’s auction schedule for Saturday.

Hi - I don't know if you can help me out but I figured I'd ask.  I went to Barrett Jackson last night and at the DR display area, there was an exotic that I had never seen before and now I can't remember the name.  I think it start's with a P.  Mid-engine, a burnt orange color.  The driver sits in the middle of the cabin w/ two passengers, one on each side.  The logo on the hood kinda looks like a snake... thanks!
