Enzo Replacement to get turbo V-8

A Ferrari customer with inside information told CarsUK that the upcoming Ferrari Enzo-replacement codenamed the F70/FX70 will utilize a turbocharged V-8 for propulsion instead of a V-12 engine. In talking to Ferrari, the unnamed customer said that they told him that turbo lag “is no longer an issue.”

The F40, a car built to celebrate 40 years of Ferrari and the last Ferrari built under Enzo Ferrari’s supervision, was powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 making 478 hp and 425 lbs.-ft. of torque. It was replaced in 1995 by the Ferrari F50, which was powered by a 4.7-liter V-12 making 520 hp and 347 lbs.-ft. of torque.

CarUK is reporting that Ferrari built a V-12 engine making 800 hp and a V-8 engine making 700 hp while trying to decide which would be best for the future supercar. Although the V-12 was favored by the “heart” of Ferrari, the “head” of Ferrari decided to go with the V-8.
