Porsche will be offering a lithium-ion battery on the 2010 GT3, GT3 RS, and Boxster Spyder. Compared to the standard lead-acid battery, the Li-ion is 22 pounds lighter, recharges quicker, and lasts longer. The one major problem is that it does not work well in cold weather. So once temperatures drop below freezing, a standard battery is your best bet. The new battery will be a $1,700 option for the premium models mentioned above. It can also be retrofitted to those models for a heavier premium.
