Bertone Mantide brings back $1.95 million

Do you remember the Bertone Mantide? It’s that…err…different looking car based off the Corvette ZR1. After receiving a good amount of attention at the 2009 Shanghai Motor Show, Bertone decided to build ten cars, one of which recently sold for approximately $1.95 million. This is the second unit to be sold and none of the buyers’ names have been disclosed—although Jay Leno is rumored to be one of them.

The Mantide features the Corvette’s 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 making the same 638 hp and 604 lbs.-ft. of torque. However, since it has to move around 3,113 pounds—220 less than the ZR1—and makes more downforce at speed, the Mantide is faster to sixty—at 3.2 seconds versus the ZR1’s 3.4—and holds a higher top speed—217 versus the ZR1’s 205 mph.

Wow it is slick. Very futuristic but has that vette appeal at the same time.
