Wolfgang Duerheimer, Porsche's head of development, has reportedly told a German magazine that manufacturing a vehicle that is significantly cheaper than the Porsche Boxster is currently one of the company’s top priorities. This comes hot on the heels of news the Porsche CEO Michael Macht thinks the company can double its sales to 150,000 annually by introducing new models.
The impact is designed to help Porsche in two key areas: sales, which are down 24 percent for the fiscal year that ended this past July compared to the previous, and to help the company meet the new stringent CAFÉ standards without leaning on parent-company VW’s EPA numbers.
