Jaguar XJR to be replaced with XJ Supersport

Jaguar is going to drop the R designation for the Supersport name on the XJ model. The XJ Supersport will utilize the same 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 found in the rest of the R lineup and making 510 hp and 461 lbs.-ft. of torque. Despite the car weighing 4,281 pounds—or an increase of approximately 250 pounds more than the outgoing XJR—the extra horses will make it faster, ripping from zero-to-60 mph in 4.7 seconds; an improvement of 0.3 seconds. Top speed will still be limited to 155 mph.

Previously, the Supersport was a designation for Jaguar's supercharged long-wheelbase car.  The nomenclature went as follows: the XJ had a short wheelbase and was naturally aspirated; the XJR had a short wheelbase and was supercharged; the XJ Vanden Plas had a long wheelbase, was more luxurious, and was naturally aspirated; and the XJ Supersport had a long wheelbase and was supercharged.
