A Minnesota man’s McLaren F1 mysteriously combusted while out on a drive in California on Monday. Fire crews were able to rescue the first half; unfortunately, the rear of the car, which houses the engine, did not fare as well.
According to an assistant fire chief at the scene, the car had not been driven in six months. It was not until a fellow motorist noticed the smoke did the owner get out to investigate.
The 1995 McLaren F1 was one of 100 built, of those 100, only 64 were designed for the road while the other 42 were made for the track. Estimated value of the super sports car was $2 million, though the owner had it insured for $3 million.
