Don’t let all that talk about Ferrari focusing less on outright speed and more on the special rewards—like the car’s sound and feel—fool you. While the upcoming F430 replacement (rumored to be called the F450) may be a tad softer, Ferrari will continue to produce some special models that are dedicated to getting around the track as fast as possible.
One such model is the Ferrari 599 XX. Based off the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorana, the 599 XX will be racetrack ready but unfortunately, not street legal. To give you idea of how fast the 599 XX is, the FXX has lapped Fiorano—the Ferrari test track located in Fiorano Modenese—in 1 minute and 16 seconds, while the 599 XX’s fastest lap is only a second behind at 1 minute 17 seconds. Only 20 or 30 of these cars will be built and purchase will include participation in dedicated track events.
For those people that want to be able to drive their prized piece down the road, Ferrari also announced the Handling GT Evoluzione, or HGTE, package for the 599. At its heart, the package is focused at improving handling via a stiffer rear anti-roll bar and springs and new calibration of the car’s magnetorheological shock absorbers.
