Baby Rolls coming to Geneva

Rolls-Royce will be taking the sheets off its new entry-level car code named the 200EX at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. Despite being the lowest priced car in the Rolls-Royce fleet, UK’s Car magazine estimates the price tag will be at a Ferrari-F430-beating $257,000.

The 200EX will be based off the long-wheel-base BMW 7-series, will utilize BMW’s V-12 engine for power, and come with a control system much like BMW’s iDrive. Unlike BMW, expect the car to retain the typical Rolls-Royce less-than-sporty handling.

The predicament Rolls-Royce faces is to make a car that will neither cannibalize its own Phantom sales nor hurt its younger brother, the BMW 7-series. Unfortunately, it has not learned from Bentley, and its very successful Continental, by developing a car priced low enough to gain an increase in market share without jeopardizing its siblings' sales.
