Fleet of exotics, including 8 Ferraris, crash in Japan

A fleet of exotic supercars were involved in a disastrous crash in Japan on Sunday after one hit a median barrier and spun out of control. The crash included a stunning eight Ferraris, a Lamborghini, and three Mercedes. In total, 14 vehicles were involved. Luckily, no one was seriously injured. The Ferraris appear to include a white 512, a 430 Scuderia, F360s with large rear wings, and F355s. The pack of sports cars was headed to Hiroshima from Kyushu and eclipsing speeds of 90 mph according to initial reports. The accident occurred when one of the Ferraris tried to change lanes on the wet road and crashed into a median barrier, sparking a chain of events that led to the horrific crash. Damages are estimated at $3.8 million.

22-year old grabs first Aventador for extra $71,000

A 22-year-old engineering graduate, Dhiaa Al-Essa, became the first person in Saudi Arabia to take delivery of the new 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4. To bypass the car’s 18-month waiting list, the youth reportedly paid an additional $71,000 on top of the car’s $387,000 base price. Obviously, Al-Essa is not tight on cash, which may have a lot to do with the £1.5-billion estimated worth of his family.

The Lamborghini is just one of many exotic supercars that Al-Essa owns, which looks like a laundry list of the latest and greatest and includes a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, Koenigsegg Agera, Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe, Rolls-Royce Phantom sedan, Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, Ferrari F430, Ferrari 599 GTO, Ferrari 458 Italia, Ferrari California, Porsche 997 GT3 RS, Porsche 997 Turbo Spyder, Bentley Continental GT, Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG, Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG, BMW M5, BMW X6M, BMW X5M, Audi R8, and Maybach 62. His collection has an estimated value of $12 million.

Which car does Al-Essa like the most? According to an article posted on Metro.co.uk in 2010 before he acquired at least the Koenigsegg and the Aventador, his favorite ride was the Mercedes SLR McLaren because of the way it looks and drives and its reliability.

A very good reason to NEVER speed in Canada

The North Vancouver Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) seized and sold a Blue 2008 Ferrari 430 Scuderia for going 200 km/h (124 mph) in a 60-km/h (37-mph) zone and just missing a woman with two young children while street racing a BMW. The government sold the Ferrari to a local dealership for $235,000 under a provincial civil forfeiture law, netting a nearly $50,000 profit, or 20 percent of the car’s sale price, for the province and giving the driver and a relative of the driver that is part owner $70,500 and $117,500, respectively. The Ferrari was racing a BMW M6, which was also seized. The government decided to punish both drivers to the fullest extent of the law because of the nature of the crime. Both drivers were also given 15-day driving bans. The government hopes to net $100,000 from the sale of both vehicles. The money will go to “policing and crime prevention.”

“When a vehicle has killed or injured someone, it’s too late,” Solicitor General Rich Coleman was quoted as saying. “Our laws now work to take vehicles away from reckless drivers before they hurt someone, because they are demonstrating no regard for the safety of themselves or others on our roads.”

Part of Rothstein's exotic car collection to go to auction

Scott Rothstein was able to use his position as a lawyer to coax millions of dollars out of people that trusted him. The man known for wearing and driving in only the best, Rothstein is now awaiting sentencing in what has turned out to be a $1.4-billion Ponzi scheme. Rothstein’s sentencing is June 9, 2010, where he faces up to 100 years in prison. In the meantime, ten of Rothstein’s cars, only a small part of his exotic car collection, will be going up for auction on June 3, 2010, to give back some of the money to those he swindled.

Among the cars to go up for auction that day are a 2008 Bugatti Veyron, two red Ferrari 430 Spiders (a 2006 and a 2008), a 2010 Lamborghini Murcielago LP670 SV, a white 2009 Bentley Continental GTC, a red and black 1967 Corvette, a yellow 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR Roadster, 2008 Cadillac Escalade, a blue 2009 Maserati GranTurismo, and a 2007 Ford Expedition limo.

If now of these vehicles perk your interest, we are still awaiting a 1990 Ferrari F40, a silver 2007 Rolls-Royce Phantom, 2008 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, 2009 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, 2008 Mercedes-Benz S65, and a couple boats to go up for auction.

AskMen names top ten douchemobiles

Top ten lists and throwing around immoderate comments about things that others hold dear is one way to get attention on the Internet. That's why we have brought you AskMen's top ten “douchemobile” list. These are, in its words, automobiles whose "reputation is sullied by some of the guys who drive them." The cars in the list range in price from the tens of thousands to the hundreds of thousands. Some of the standouts include any Ferrari F430 or F360 in Fly Yellow that is not a track car or Scuderia or Challenge Stradale edition, any Porsche Cayenne, any Lamborghini Gallardo or Murcielago in a fluorescent color, and, holding the number one spot, any Hummer model. Agree or disagree?
