NSX Super Bowl ad causes Acura site to crash

Seinfield NSX Super Bowl Ad

The new NSX’s first appearance was a little more than a month ago at the Detroit Auto Show, and, after the hilarious Super Bowl commercial that debuted on the fateful night of the Patriot’s loss, Acura’s web site crashed because of an overwhelming amount of visitors looking to find out more about the new NSX. Mike Accavitti, chief operating officer at American Honda estimates that Acura’s web site was down for about 10 minutes because of a 3,000-percent increase (!) in traffic.

Even though the concept was unveiled last month, the commercial featuring Jerry Seinfield and Jay Leno made this hypothetical car a reality. The car is about three years away from production according to the commercial and is already getting major hype. The NSX Super Bowl commercial did its job of drawing the attention Acura wanted. Accrding to Acura, visitors were viewing other vehicles besides the NSX.

“People are talking about Acura who never talked about Acura, and that was our intent,” said Accavitti says.

Hats off to Acura’s successful marketing efforts!

Acura teases world with NSX Concept

Can’t wait to see the upcoming Acura NSX Concept? Unveiled at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, you can get a sneak peek of it in the upcoming Avengers movie because this concept car looks very similar to the open-top machine that Tony Stark drives in the film.

Enthusiasts such as ourselves are asking how this new NSX will compare to the old NSX and its reputation of being a simple yet clean sports car. For starters, the new Acura NSX looks very similar to the Audi R8 and is almost equally as beautiful. This is a word not used many times in association to Acura’s more recent rather bland products.

Production of the NSX halted in 2005, although rumors of a new version have made headlines year after year. Gossip and rumors have been circulating about this car for the last seven years, but no firm details have been provided. Here’s what we know so far: The mid-engine concept features a hybrid drivetrain that works in unison with Honda’s Superior Handling All Wheel Drive system (SH-AWD).

Rumors say the car will be produced at one of Honda’s Ohio plant and will hit the streets in the next three years with a 3.2-liter V-6, although Acura has yet to confirm any details.

800-hp NSX offered in our classifieds

Acura ceased production on its NSX in 2005 but that has not stopped one dealership from posting a custom NSX as a 2010 in our classified ads. Of course, with the amount of modifications done to this NSX, you would be hard pressed to figure out the year without doing a VIN check. Next Level Motorsports of Williston, Vermont, is selling the custom-bodied 800-hp NSX for $150,000. The car’s custom bodywork makes it look like a cross breed between a Saleen S7, Lamborghini Diablo, and a Ferrari 512 TR / F355. Is this a travesty to the NSX name or a masterpiece?

High-speed chases in exotics nabs some, loses others

What normally happens in the movies:

We have seen it on television and the Need for Speed video game built a franchise on it, but running from the law in a $200,000+ sports car at triple-digit speeds is not something that really happens, right? Well, one Canadian did it and even came pretty close to getting away.

A police officer in Port Moody, British Columbia, crashed his cruiser Wednesday afternoon after chasing a Ferrari on the Barnet Highway. The officer noticed the red Ferrari driving erratically and dangerously fast. After taking chase and while trying to close the distance between him and the Ferrari, the officer lost control of his cruiser and sideswiped a van.  No one was hurt in the crash.

Although the Ferrari was able to get away, the driver has since been identified and the investigation is continuing.

Police car crashes during Ferrari chase

What normally happens in real life:

An Oregon trooper pulled over six exotic sports cars driving well over the speed limit on Thursday. The best part is he was able to pull them all over at the same time. The cars included a Gallardo, F430, NSX, 599 GTB, F40, and another not-pictured Ferrari. Senior Trooper David Peterson cited all the drivers for Speed Racing.
